Heydar Aliyev International Airport is the home base airport of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Company located 20 km northeast of the capital Baku. The airport meets all the requirements of the international standards and is connected to the capital city by two modern highways. All necessary conditions are created here for passengers’ convenience as well as the duty free shops operate within the international airport.
The airport’s new terminal complex, which features a unique architectural solution (from above it reminds a big bird with stretched out wings) was opened in 2014. The airport has a runway capable of accepting the heaviest and modern airliners, including the world's largest passenger aircrafts Airbus A380.
Currently, the air fleet of AZAL consists of 25 the latest aircrafts such as Airbus 340, 320, 319, Boeing 757, 767, and Embraer. Altogether there are more than 30 airports in the world where flights from the Baku airport organized to.
